Tesco's Recommendations Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Tesco's Recommendations - Essay Example However, it was with the oncoming of the 1990s that Tesco began its international expansion and began to channel extensive resources towards innovation in its marketing strategy to reach consumers (Clark, 2008). This paper shall attempt to shed light on Tescos current standing in the consumer market and the effectiveness of its current marketing strategies in order to develop a set of recommendations for Tesco to sustain and improve its market share and profitability. It is also imperative to realize that Tesco has chosen to exercise extensive product development and market development by adding products and services that are non-food but provide consumers with high levels of utility. This strategy is one that has proven to be extremely beneficial for Tesco over time (Chaffey, 2008). While this innovation on the part of Tesco may make it difficult to soundly place Tesco as a grocery retailer, the fact remains that Tescos fundamental sales items remain those that pertain to groceries. The approach is one that is found by Tesco in the concept of the investment in growth. Growth, according to Tescos strategy, is the development of availability and accessibility for consumers to Tesco (Corporate Watch UK, 2004). An example can be found in the fact that Tesco more than often chooses to make use of an opportunity to open an Express Store rather than letting it go by. With regard to the effectiveness of the current marketing and strategic outlook of Tesco, it can be observed that Tesco is currently recognized as a reliable and acknowledged brand amongst European consumers and is in a condition that can be considered stable enough to bring forth an expansion plan into the market (Corporate Watch UK, 2004). It would be appropriate for Tesco to move forth from market penetration approaches to product development strategies (Marivic Butod, 2009). Needless to say, the question of the

Individual Project Unit 5 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Individual Project Unit 5 - Essay Example As the business evolves, it would seem likely that a large amount of physical paperwork and electronic data begins to accumulate due to internal operations, record-keeping for items such as payroll, and simply copies of literature which is distributed to employees routinely. Further, there may also be a large amount of information stemming from marketing efforts or even graphic illustrations (depending on the nature of the company). It is no longer practical in todays business environment to have mountains of storage space available for items including bulky manual payroll slips or six-year old manuals that no longer serve a practical purpose in the evolving office environment. Having offered this, it becomes absolutely necessary to create a system of databases to store and transfer these operations-related documents. Managing the information would require the implementation of some sort of computer and software system designed around the specific needs of the business environment. For example, if the company had too many manual documents to flip through in order to find out about last years inventory-related purchase, an electronic system would accomplish this goal in a fraction of the time with a simple search through data storage. This type of search would free up the day-to-day activity schedule of each employee, giving them much more time to attend to productive business activities and boost profitability. The intranet is a popular method today of managing the internal movement of information from one employee (or division) to the next (Nickels, McHugh & McHugh, 2005). After analyzing budget requirements, if the funds were available, purchasing such software could enhance operations greatly and boost productivity. The Internet can drastically improve the business environment as it provides a broader forum to communicate to potential customers and advertise the business. Marketing professionals tend to agree that Internet marketing has shown marked

Causes of the Animal Welfare Movement

Causes of the Animal Welfare Movement Animal Welfare The meaning of animal welfare is stemmed out of the meaning how animals are dealing with the places and the circumstances which they are placed in. An animal which is in a state of prosperity stays healthy and in a good shape. The way to keep the animals health is through feeding it, keeping it in a good shape and health and stays in safety from any dangerous circumstances, it also indulges not making the animal suffer from any dissatisfying moods like agony, unsafely and   stress.   A good animal care and prosperity requires also an attentive health care and seasonal veterinary visits, well-built shelter , supervision, feeding and humane caring and humane butchery. The term animal welfare refers to the overall state of the animal, the health care that the animal gets that is indulged by many other terms  Ã‚   like animal healthcare, animal marriage, and well-presented treatment. Certifying animal satisfaction is a responsibility that is thrown over the arms of humans that indulges the attention to all the surroundings of animal satisfaction that indulges proper well-made shelter for the animal, organization, feeding and treatment against all diseases. It also demands an liable attention, humane conduct and even when it comes to the aspect of humane euthanasia. There are many points of views that perceives animal prosperity that are prejudiced by the persons morals and familiarities. There are also many meanings of measuring the animal prosperity level that indulges its well-being, efficiency, its manners and its responses. In this essay we will deal with why people support animal welfare campaigns, and the reasons that lead to creating animal welfare organization. Most people ensure animal rights and animal prosperity to save the animals from the worst treatment they are faced with and most of the people who ensure those rights to stress on the freedoms of the animals which are firstly, the freedom from malnutrition and dehydration by supporting the animals and their owners by the water and food they need to keep their animals in full body shape and potency, secondly the freedom from distress by enhancing them with the suitable shelter circumstances that is represented in the housing and comfortable sleeping area. There are also many freedoms that is enhanced by the supporters of the animal prosperity campaign that is determined in curing the animal from aching, wound, or sickness by quick analysis and healing, there must be a space also for the animals to   show there behaviors without being whipped and these places are places with the same herd and with instruments that helps in the treatment of the animal in a special place. There must be a type of freedom for animals that preserves them from threatenings and a well treatment that prevents from the deteriorating mental health. Moreover, most of the Americans have certain believes that animals have the same rights as human beings as mostly the third of the American population have certain beliefs that animals should be treated equally as human beings. Those who   have this belief reached 32% of the adult sample which were suggested to poll that counted as 1,024 person and the other 25% perceived that   the animals should be kept away from the bad treatment and maltreatment. On the other hand mostly 62% of the Americans voted that the animals need some guard and that they can be used also to serve humans another three percent perceived that they should be protected but not like humans as they are just animals. Most of the Americans were worried about the destiny of the animals which are used in the Circus as the reported that they were mistreated and also they feel worried as the animals also the animals used in sports and research and sports were mistreated also.    These organizations were built to show that the animals requires equal or similar treatment as humans get it and it requires attention as thee is the most significant difference we are dealing with about animal prosperity as most of the humans reveal the question that is animals should live a prosperous normal life and most of the people answer yes they should treated on the same level as human beings are treated as the followers of animal prosperity and animal rights perceives that they have a quality and importance that overcomes there usage for humans as the animal prosperity level is no just an idea it is a global movement that stands against the normal perspective of humans that perceives any   animal as they are used for humans help and satisfaction. These were also created to stop against the cruel treatment against the animals that started to be   a licensed movement in the beginning of the nineteenth century in England it also stood against the usage of animals in laboratory research specially in the years before using medicines and drugs , this movement was very apparent in England and began to appear in America in the late 1890s and the most apparent thing they attacked was the usage of animals in scientific researches. These organizations are also very important as they stress on the concept of occupation of the animals because in the third world countries the animals are mistreated and are used as trucks, cars, and transporting machines. People misuse them as they are our servants and they are here to serve us only. Yet, this is not true as they are living organisms like us and have the same rights like us but instead they are used to cultivate the fields, transfer the products to the markets, and work as an ambulance to transfer sick or injured people to hospitals. These organizations also guarantees the legality of the concept of Animal Welfare as many laws has been published to protect animals from being mistreated, thus anyone who breaks these laws will be punished and imprisoned and his guilt will be the mistreatment of the animal. England has published many laws to protect animals from being mistreated and acting harshly against them, these laws has been published since the beginning of the twentieth century so that they can guarantee the prosperity and welfare of animals not only in Britain but in the whole world. There are many laws that has been published to assurance the welfare of the farm animals. The other concept that these organizations has been found to is increasing the morality of human beings towards the animals. These organizations let the people know that they have a heavy duty to protect all animals not   only the animals that are viewed as our pets but also any animal who is viewed to be mistreated in America for example the person can call the police if he viewed a person treating the animals brutally and this person would be arrested immediately as our duty as human beings not to increase the sufferings of the animals but to help them live in a prosperous way. Yet, a lot of people will not agree to that especially in the animals shelter or the dog training center that demands brutal force in order to train dogs. The more strong animal welfare organizations that will reflect to the economy strongly and it will benefit the country and the animals in a marvelous way because it will increase the stocks of this country and there will be a lot of advertisement to this country as these countries serve the animal rights and leads to the animal prosperity well. In conclude, the animal prosperity movement still needs development and that made many other parties appear like the animal rights movement these parties were not known until the late 1950s.   The competition in this field is as apparent as they are divided to research the animal prosperity of the laboratory animals or the farm animals or the Circus animals. Reconciliation for 9/11 Terrorism Essay -- September 11th Terrorist At

Since the horrible tragedy on September 11th, Americans have been brainstorming for ideas on how to fight terrorism. Minds are collaborating on what can be done to reconcile the West in the minds of Islamic nations. Many strategies for attaining peace have been introduced, and steps are being made toward the appeasement of differences. The ideas for peacemaking that have already been set in motion will be discussed along with new suggestions for reconciliation. Both political and private associations in the United States have introduced wonderful solutions that have begun the process of reconciliation between Islam and the West. On the political side, President Bush visited a mosque after the terrorist attacks to depict support for American Muslims. He stated that terrorism "is not the true faith of Islam. That's not what Islam is all about. Islam is peace. These terrorists don't represent peace-they represent evil and war." (http://www.beliefnet.com/). This act helped President Bush gain the support of American Muslims who had been mistreated since the attacks. It also served as a demonstration for other Muslim countries that religion was not involved in the war. Unfortunately, since President Bush's exposure, Osama bin Laden has misled Muslims into believing that religion is a significant part of the war. In a speech he gave on November 3rd, he declares, "It is a question of faith, not a war against terrorism, as Bush and Blair try to depict it" (http://news.bbc.co.uk/). Most of all, what Muslim people need to know about Americans is that we love them. Terrorism is an act of hate, and hate can be conquered only by love. God exemplified evil-dispelling love by sending his son to earth. As American Christians, we are being called to follow God's example and show our love to our neighbors, the Muslims. I will agree with the Beatles and say that in reconciliation efforts with the Muslims, "All we need is love." Now the brainstorming is done and these ideas have been introduced. It is time to act. As students of reconciliation, we must remember that Muslims and their positions can change. However, reconciliation first requires risk and sacrifice. We must take up the challenge and walk through the door of reconciliation while it is open. Fighting Against Prejudice Essay

The Pirates of the Caribbean, set in the Caribbean Sea in the 17th century is a good example of negative prejudice. Gore Verbinski, the film director, highlights the negative prejudice using different techniques. There are two types of prejudice, negative and positive. Negative prejudice is prejudging someone in a wrong way based on their appearance or behavior. For instance, Commodore Norington from the French Military government just presumed that pirates are evil, lying, deceitful thieves who drink all day and just linger around anywhere. However, in the movie it was established that not all pirates are the same. As an example, Captain Jack Sparrow, pirate and captain of The Black Pearl sailing ship, seemed strange and ridiculous, but in fact he is a very honorable man. Furthermore, Jack helped young William Turner rescue Lady Swan from an evil band of pirates which were also the former crew of Jack Sparrow. Prejudging pirates based on stories told about them, is erroneous and neg ative. The movie director used numerous techniques to emphasize the theme of prejudice. One of the techniques used is montage through editing. This type of montage indicates that the camera films a particular scene through diverse angles using a variation of movements including panning and traveling. Panning means that there is a stationary camera which rotates horizontally and a traveling camera moves itself horizontally. For instance, in the quarrelling scene between Jack and William, this is effective since the audience is given both perspectives, from each of the people fighting and highlights William’s feeling towards pirates. Another technique that was used to emphasize prejudice is the tone and attitude of a scene. These two techniques were made possible by using a combination of close shot selection, medium camera angle and increasingly suspenseful music. Through these filming methods, the dueling scene conveys a strong prejudice feeling and a suspenseful mood. Close shot selection indicates that the camera was filming at a very close range to the subjects, which gives the audience the feeling that they are actually inside the action. Therefore, in the fighting action, the viewer feels that they are in the same room where Jack and William are fighting. When the camera is filming the scene at eye level, this is called medium camera angle. This helps underline a point because the audience is feeling that the characters from the movie are actually speaking to them. When William and Jack were dueling, they also talked to each other. Whenever one of them said something, the camera was using medium angle filming and it resulted in giving the viewer the sensation that one of the characters are talking to them. Moreover, in this type of scene there is increasingly suspenseful music which means that the music keeps the audience engrossed in the film and the music makes the viewer eager to find out what is going to happen next in the scene. Also, the music assists in dramatizing prejudice by keeping the audience in suspense. There is also another technique which is sometimes used to realize a point in a film; rate of film movement. This technique uses different types of frame motions, stop, slow, normal and fast motion. In the quarrelling scene, normal motion was used because this rate of film is as fast as real life motion and the audience has a richer experience with the negative prejudice that is projected in the fighting between Jack and William. These series of techniques articulate prejudice in the fighting scene between Jack and William because the eye level filming provides the audience with the ability to understand what each character is feeling about the other one. In the beginning scene, William Turner wanted to kill Jack Sparrow only based on the fact that he is a pirate. In this scene, there is a high camera angle as it is looking down at the scene and the camera was traveling and craning around the two characters. Furthermore, while William and Jack were skirmishing, the camera lenses were zoomed in especially when the swords were clashing and the music became intense and suspenseful to emphasize how much William was driven by negative prejudice against pirates. Besides the camera and music, there is potential montage -conflict of light: light vs. dark, which resulted in an overall darker picture since most of the light seeped into the blacksmith setting through the cracks in the wood. This technique stresses the dark side of the pirate, as perceived through William’s eyes. Moreover, after Jack Sparrow was defeated, William gave him a chance to escape from jail conditional – to save Lady Swan from the evil pirates of The Black Pearl. Hence, after fighting one another and learning more about each other, Jack Sparrow and William Turner formed a perceptive team. Despite the fact that Jack Sparrow is a pirate, it was proven that a friendship can be built between two people that belong to different worlds. Another example of negative prejudice is that no matter that the pirates saved a person’s life they are still judged and prosecuted as bad people. For instance, when the Governor’s daughter, Elizabeth Swan fainted and fell into the sea from a few hundred feet above, the two guards patrolling the docks were unable to save her because they were arguing which one to save her. However, Jack Sparrow without conditions dove into the sea to save Lady Swan. This scene was filmed at close range amid the docks and the camera was panning throughout the frames. These techniques were used to make the audience feel that they are actually helping to save Lady Swan. Another factor that made the scene look very realistic was the use of natural lighting and older English dialogue used by the characters. Even though Jack Sparrow rescued Elizabeth, the Governor and Commodore Norington saw the markings of a pirate on his left forearm, immediately they ordered to hang Jack Sparrow. In this scene, the camera filmed at a very close shot selection and there was a moment of silence, indicating that Jack Sparrow, the savior of Lady Swan, was indeed a pirate. As a result, this is yet another example of negative prejudice against pirates. Jack Sparrow had proven himself a noble man by saving the Governor’s daughter and was still sentenced because of what he was. In the Pirates of the Caribbean, numerous film techniques were used to emphasize and develop the theme of prejudice such as montage, camera movement, angle, and traveling camera. Whilst prejudice means â€Å"prejudgment,† there seems to be a moment where the facts are overwhelming the prejudgments. Therefore, in the ending scene of the movie, the Commodore and General accepted the reality and they spared Jack Sparrow’s life by a day. Prejudging a group of people only based on someone experience is wrong. Each individual might have qualities or defects, positive or negative characteristics.

Junk food advertising

Subject 1: Because of the alarming rate of childhood obesity and the power of advertising to attract children, a growing number of people think that junk food advertising should be banned or limited in some way. Would you be for or against such a ban? Write a persuasive paragraph in which you develop and support your position on this issue. I strongly believe that junk food advertising should not be banned because it will not resolve the childhood obesity issue and this measure will go against the customers’ right to be informed about new products and discounts prices.First, junk food advertising should not be banned to reduce the childhood obesity. People who support this new measure think that it is the perfect solution. However the reality is different. Although a ban will probably decrease of childhood obesity at first. In the long term it will certainly not last. It is the parents’ responsibility to educate their children concerning the methods companies use to att ract them to their products. It’s the parents’ duty to teach them that even if they are shown something that they desire, they can't always get what they want.Junk food commercials are not the problem. However, over permissive parents who allow their kids to have and eat anything they want are the culprits. For instance, I remember when I was younger I used to watch my favorite cartoons every weekend. In Between two cartoons most of the time there were some junk foods commercials shown, which had an effect on me because after seeing these advertisement I really wanted to go to MacDonald’s. I also remember that my parents told me that it was not healthy. They taught me good eating habits and they also allowed me to eat junk food only once or twice a month. This example show that junk food advertisement have very little impact on children. On the other hand the parents play a major role in the fight against obesity. Second, consumers have the right to be informed a bout new products and discount prices. Banning junk food commercials will contradict this right. That is inconceivable. In 1962, President John F Kennedy presented a speech to the United States Congress that mentioned the right to be informed. This right states that businesses should always provide consumers enough appropriate information to make intelligent and informed product choices. For example one night I did not know what to eat and I saw on TV that Domino’s pizza was offering good deals. So, I decided to buy pizzas for dinner. Without this commercial I would not have been informed about this special price. In addition banning junk food advertisement would interfere too much with the right of companies to sell legal products, and would require a cumbersome bureaucracy to determine what junk food was and which programs were intended for children. Third, banning junk advertising will have deleterious effects on the economy.According to The Federal Trade Commission food co rporations spend at least $1. billion in the US every year to advertise their products. If the government bans specific commercial advertising enterprises. Advertisement companies as well as the makers of the products advertised will see a decrease in their revenue. Disney channel estimated that the ban will cost them 7 millions of dollars. In conclusion banning junk food advertising is not a solution because it will not resolve the child obesity problem. Also, consumers will no longer be aware of new products and services. Finally it will have negative effects on the economy.
